Pipe in the making

Here is a pipe I am making from a hunk of pipestone. I am not really sure what the material is actually called, but that is what I was told it was when I purchased it at a powwow in OH. a few years back.

I am trying for a kind of stylized Native chief look. I still have a ways to go, and posting it here might just light a fire under me to get it done. I will also need to make the wooden stem after completing the stone work, so it may be an extended project.

find you a walnut or oak sappling around 16 15 foot tall and takt 1-2 feet off the center top cut it in half and use a wire hanger heat it up on the stove and burn the pith out of the center of the pipe stem it works i have made at least 7 pipes from catlinite or blood stone and a few out of soap stone put drill on low and set the speed real low also so the pipe dont get hot and crack use dremel and pocket knife tip of blade to do the detail when attaching the stem to the pipe use sand paper to taper the stem so it will get a good seal between the stem and pipe or boil somr deer antler chunks untill you see white stuff floating on the top of the water that is antler glue skim it off and rub around the stem and pipe another good seal. olepossum

Thanks for the tips, olepossum! I haven't even thought about making the stem, so these are some good ideas for me to try.
