I received this as a gift when I was a kid. The guy who gave it to me had a makeshift "museum" in his garage in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He said it was a "peace pipe". I thought it was really cool for a long time, but was told by a geologist that it was a natural formation, not a pipe. So, any ideas? Pipe, or natural formation?

I am leaning towards fossil. I could be wrong though. Peace pipe. I have not heard that term in a long time. Cool whatever it is.

It's a natural formation. I have a spot along the Ohio River where I find a bunch of very similar pieces. I thought they may have been Fulgurites, but I don't think they are.

Cool. Yeah, I thought the guy calling it a "peace pipe" is kind of funny now. At the time, I just pictured some big chief passing it around the camp fire. lol So, if it isn't a Fulgerite, what type of geologic object is it?
