The dog tags would have been nice, but having the opportunity to hunt such a special place is gift enough. The kind of detecting my wife wants to do is hunting for surface finds int he camping areas. Maybe she can find a dog tag or two there.

That is fine, but tell her...she gets that coin signal...a few inches down...she'll be hooked! LOL

Thanks for the pics, ann.Looks like you guys had a full agenda but I know the enjoyment you must have had. It's always great to be in a group you can laugh with and enjoy nature.

You are most welcomed and thank you for coming along for our weekend adventure (viewing the photos). It was a blast! It was nice that the boys really enjoyed a campout of all fun and not much work...it was a nice change for them!

Leaves are starting to change and should be a beautiful sight when we arrive there in two weeks! We just may see more of Falls colors by then!

The pictures were great!

It was nice to see that Boy Scout camping at your camp was much the same as my local camp. The boys like to cook on gas stoves, When I was a Boy Scout it was mostly wood fires and occasionally charcoal. By the way we had to cut all the wood that we used, todays scouts probably not be able too. I am impressed as your boys seem to be able to cook without burning, or did you pick only the good shots? Let me guess you had a picture of french toast, was macaroni and cheese and hot dogs also on the menu that day.

What was your infatuation with the interior of that shack? Did I miss something? ::) :D

Thank You....it was hard to choose which ones to use...I had over 500, plus a few videos .. LOL

Well, if the boys had their way,,,we parents would be cooking LOL...

They still collect firewood for our campfire (gotta have marshmellows!), but all cooking these days are on stoves. And we keep the axe handy in the dry box incase we have to chop some...

They do pretty good with cooking.

For Breakfast Sat morn: Dragon Patrol had eggs and sausages and Scorpion Patrol had pancakes and sausages.
For Lunch Sat: Dragon's had grilled cheese sandwiches and soup, while the Scorpion's had grilled cheese with Ramon Noodles.
For Dinner Sat: Dragon's had Philly Steak Subs and the Scorpion's had grilled chicken, potatoes, carrots and Ramon Noodles.
For Sunday morn: Dragon's had oatmeal and toast and the Scorpion's had eggs and sausage. (Mom supplied the Hot Chocolate w/ marshmellows as a surprise as they came out of their tents!)

However, the Scoutmaster and Asst Scoutmaster had to test all food cooked for each meal to make sure it was safe for the boys to eat. They passed! LOL. The Asst Scoutmaster cooked for us adults! (I have trained my hubby (Asst SM) well...that's the Girl Scout in me! LOL)

I posted a pic of my oldest son making himself some toast for his eggs and sausage! The other pic is one of our Scouts making the grilled chicken with tators and carrots! (we forgot the onion!). They wanted to do fried chicken, but we told them no, besides, grilled is healthier!

The boys have to make their own menus and then it has to be approved. They have come a long way from kool-aid, hot dogs and PB&J's!!! They do pretty good in choosing their menus, pretty darn proud of them for it!

The photos I posted are of all about the reservation, which it 917+ acres of land. This is the land we do our twice yearly metal detecting at. We are writing a book on our adventures and the proceeds will go back to Pipsico BS Reservation. We do not (not allowed) to keep our finds, but we have so much researching and detecting it...it's become an obession now!!!

But I took pics of the barn, which was built in 1856. The history of this land goes back to the Jamestown settlement, War of 1812 and some action in the Civil War! You can't go into the barn without Ranger Dan's permission and he has to be with you, so when they had it opened for the 50th anniversary, I thought it best to get in there and capture some shots. They are in the process of trying to preserve it. Alot of those beams you see are to hold up the roof and sides of the building. They have started on several restortation spots of the barn, but they have a long way to go.

Some of the ground shots you see from Day Two is where the Archie Digs are happening (or where happening). It may be another year or two before they are able to dig again. Some legal jargon I am not familiar with...anyways. That was the first time I was back there and took the opportunity to grab some pics. We can go back there when we do our digs, but we are NOT AUTHORIZED to walk back there with our detectors and we abide by that rule! We don't want to make anyone made and I sure don't want to be kicked off Pipsico, esp with my boys as Scouts!

It was mostly the Cub Scouts that did the Cardboard Boat Regatta....it was so funny watching those youngin's paddling their way. The one that you see sunk...LOL...Bless their hearts, they did real good! Atleast they got their boat across the finish line before it sank!!! That was Pack 800 and they won 2nd and 3rd prize and they won something else, I can't recall off hand! Boy Scouts did do the regatta, but we weren't there for that....we were walking all over the reservation and believe you me, come Monday morning, my body was pointing out muscles to me I did not know I had! LOL

Scouting is great and I wish more boys would get involved with it. Usually never a problem with getting girls to join the Girl Scouts, but I don't know what it is with boys? Kudos to Baden Powell and Juliette Lowe for our Scouting Program!!!

Thanks for looking...
YIS & YIMD,
Annmarie

Here's a pic of the dog tags and the patches.

The one on the left is for NON-PARTICIPANTS and the one on the right is for PARTICIPANTS. The Participant is passed out to all those who registered and attended the 50th Anniversary. So, we got the NON-Participant one as well...that will be a nice collectors item!!!

The dog tags will also be collector items...as they were limited edition prints...as you will see the numbers on my boys tags. Sorry, they are some what fuzzy, but I don't feel like taking pics again...LOL

And then you will see the WOODEN NICKEL...I bet you will find alot of those around the reservation!!!

That's great Ann thanks.
I will bring cash. Would like to also get the dog tags also. They look sharp.
Have enjoyed going with you on the celebration. Your pics always tell the great story.

See everyone soon.

You are most welcomed! Ok, I forgot to list prices. The Dog Tags were $5.00 each and I believe the patch was too! The patch may have been less, but don't quote me on that...but I know for sure the tags were $5.00 each! And the Trading Post will be open the weekend of our hunt!

Ann and gang,

Looks like you had a good time!

I spoke to a guy who was a boy scout there back what I believe he said was 20 years ago. He sayed they knew about the home site back then and played in it, or did something back there.
I believe after talking to a few other people the story you said, about someone falling in it, is what brought it to this junior archies attention.

OK, since you were back in there, what did they say is the secondary dig area they had off to the side of the main? I saw that last time we were out there, I didn't detect back there of course, but was told I could look, so I did, and couldn't figure ot what it was to the left side. It appeared the house faced the river, the cookhouse was to the rear (assumption based on the other little dig site out of the treeline and the big iron oven door found around there), and the only thing I could figure about the side was maybe a slave quarter...

Well, at any rate, I wish you all the best of luck but I will not be able to attend this time.
