Plan 'B' was Better...

After a tough day yesterday we decided to go back to a ploughed field that we thought had potential. Problem was that it was roughly ploughed & with the snow & frozen heavy clay it was too hard work. Although we did manage a couple of scrappies & a few buttons.
After a short break showing the farmer all our stuff from the previous year (& the start of this one), we went back to the stubble field to finish off a small section. In total we did 2.5 hours & I did finally get a shortcross hammered :headbang:

3 Scrappys
1 Tudor Leather Mount
'Castle' Livery Button
Sword Belt Hook?
Bits...

The hammered might be our first & only in this month :-\

Variety, is Britain :blob7:

Re: Plan 'B' was Better...

The button in the second photo, with the tower of a castle, it seems Spanish :icon_scratch: . Here is very similar buttons belonging to the Regiment of Engineers.
H :hello:

Re: Plan 'B' was Better...

Most detectorists would have probably not even heard that silver on their detector, let alone dug it.
Once again, great finds!

Not enough info to be 100% sure of an ID, but mid-13th C (King John or Henry III, don't think its one of the other 2)

H :hello:

I know the type you mean, but its a London made Livery Button, circa 1830 :icon_thumright:

Re: Plan 'B' was Better...

Hey Cru, that's a nice looking Silver Gilted button with the tower and battlements on it, I would take something like that quick to add to my button collection...plus you did get a small piece of hammered silver so may not be to your normal specs but at least you didn't get skunked...far from it :occasion14:

Re: Plan 'B' was Better...

Nice stuff you are finding there....Love that 'Castle' Livery Button :icon_thumleft:

Re: Plan 'B' was Better...

Yes the button was a last second find & a welcome one :icon_thumright:
