We are planning a trip to Florida, warm is good! We would like to know your thoughts on detecting Key West? We have never been there but it looks great! Not much sand there will a sand scoop work? We had a great time in Fort Lauderdale and could go back there also. Or even the southwest side.

Thanks for your input all!

i took the family down this past weekend for a Friday/Saturday get away. I hit Smathers beach, and got one gold ring and a bunch of clad. the unfortunate thing about Smathers Beach is the clay and muck in the water. I hunted for about 4 hours waist high, and spent half of the time trying to free my feet from the muck. Unfortunately, i broke the handle on my scoop and called it a day. i normally hit the sand for a few hours and then the water, but i decided to hit the water first as it was smooth as glass. should have done my usual thing and may have found more.

We always stay at the Sheraton and they have a shuttle that will drop you off at the Conch Republic Seafood Restaurant which is a few blocks from Duval Street.

Sorry to hear that Buff! A ring is good though. Is there any sand on the beaches? Is it really hard to use the scoop everywhere?

So were you able to take the shuttle to the beach too, or was the restaurant on the beach?

Thank you for the response!

Been there many times. Not much sand beach in Key West.

I'm not sure I could figure where you might go with a md.

I'd hit the Fisher museum, and Duval street for drinks and food. Maybe a trip to Dry Tortugas....

I'd also beg a trip aboard the Magruder if I could.

Thanks Bum! We may be leaning to more time in Ft Lauderdale,, a day or two in Key West.
Want to treasure hunt more, party less lolol.

Yup, lots of beach there! Should be goodies as well.

Oh - a tip - the only detector of mine that worked on a salt water beach is the Garrett GTI 2500 until I got the Infinium.

Make sure your detector can do this, or you'll be frustrated.

Also make sure you protect the unit from salt mist and rinse it off every night with fresh water.

HH!

Thank you bum! we actually went there a little while ago and found alot of clad, some junk jewelry and 1 silver ring. Bought a AT Pro and it was a little jittery but it did pretty well. My wife and I are having a blast beach hunting! Lot of learning though.

I wouldn't go there for the detecting!! worst beach I ever detected on.

Thank you. Which beaches do you recommend? We are open to suggestions, as long as it is not frozen!
