Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I think Platinu is not magnetic...
BTW are you in the Philippines?

Pure platinum is not magnetic, but it's probably never found in that state. So it may be magnetic due to other metals being mixed in with the platinum.

As far as I know there are only two magnetic metals, Iron and Nickel.

Iron, nickel, cobalt, gadolinium, neodymium and samarium are all magnetic.

Yes, I did have to Google that one!

gadolinium, neodymium and samarium. Are they used to make Dilithium crystals?? :occasion14:

It look,s to be on one of those small vials it could be a piece of deformed steel shot . tumbling in the river will have distorted it's shape, also looks to have a rustiness to it.

Ya it looks like iron but has nuggetty features and seems to be heavier than steel. It was found in the water and has been for a long time so it should have been completely rusted out I would think... The vial is a 2 0z. So that should give you a size.

Your best bet would be to do a streak test or have a jeweler do one for you.
Platinum will not dissolve in nitric or hydrochloric acid. Which is a very strong indicator.

But just looking at it, I do not think it is platinum.

Do meteorites have gadolinium, neodymium and samarium or Dilithium crystals in them??? You know the funny thing is the spell checker says gadolinium, neodymium and samarium are all spelled correctly, so I assume that the spell checker knows more about minerals than I do.

Went to a jeweler today said it was not platinum my thoughts are meteorite.
