I headed out to a new cornfield that had a house site at least as far back as 1873. I hunted quite a while without much to show for my efforts. I kept finding bits and pieces of copper that rang good and I kept digging them so not to miss any IH's or LC's. :P Eventually I was tired and thirsty, and was headed back towards my car when I got a good signal. I dug and popped out a tiny, thin coin. Was this my first seated? :dontknow: It was too dirt covered to tell, so I stuck it in my pocket and kept hunting. Eventually curiosity got the best of me and I headed back towards the car and some water to rinse it. A quick rinse showed the head of a woman and now I wasn't sure what I had dug. :icon_scratch: I grabbed my glasses for a better look and saw it was an 1887 Canadian nickel. Not the coin I had thought, but at least I was in the right era for a seated coin. The weather was beautful today....how much longer will we see 55 degrees and sunny in Nov.? :icon_sunny:

So a new first and more hope for good things amid the corn stubble!

HH and thanks for looking,
Michiganne

That is one awesome piece of silver Anne, congrats on that great find! Looks like it has lots of detail. Must take some patience to hunt those corn rows, keep up the good work! D.

WTG Anne! Congrats on the old Canadian nickel and assortment of relics. That cornfield has got to have some more goodies.

WOW :icon_thumleft: ....you found a "fishscale" :headbang:

Those little critters are very hard to find..and considered rare.

Silver that thin and small is proof you are in tune with your machine.

Don't be disappointed it wasn't a seated coin. It's a GREAT find :hello2:

Hey Anne,

Congrats on your first fishscale! I got my first one last year and it was on my finds list! WTG!!!!!
:icon_thumright:

Nice coin Anne, I admire your perseverance. After digging all that slag I think I might have given up in disgust. As a matter of fact I did give up after digging a bunch of slag...just yesterday! LOL Keep digging up those good ones!

Congrats on the fishscale. They are about the same size as a U.S. half dime. :headbang: Getting some great finds to end the year with. Still have a week of nice weather too. Try and keep em coming Anne.

wow nice find Anne!.... I never realized how small those fishscales are, great pics too! That looks like a fun spot to hunt, good luck going back! congrats on a sweet silver find! :hello2:
