I headed out to a new cornfield that had a house site at least as far back as 1873. I hunted quite a while without much to show for my efforts. I kept finding bits and pieces of copper that rang good and I kept digging them so not to miss any IH's or LC's. :P Eventually I was tired and thirsty, and was headed back towards my car when I got a good signal. I dug and popped out a tiny, thin coin. Was this my first seated?
It was too dirt covered to tell, so I stuck it in my pocket and kept hunting. Eventually curiosity got the best of me and I headed back towards the car and some water to rinse it. A quick rinse showed the head of a woman and now I wasn't sure what I had dug.
I grabbed my glasses for a better look and saw it was an 1887 Canadian nickel. Not the coin I had thought, but at least I was in the right era for a seated coin. The weather was beautful today....how much longer will we see 55 degrees and sunny in Nov.?
So a new first and more hope for good things amid the corn stubble!
HH and thanks for looking,
