I have said in the past that there seem to be certain ratios when metal detecting. For me, it seems that for every 12 buttons, I dig 1 good coin. Well, last week we had a few cool days that allowed me to hit a new spot. I knew the spot had been heavily hit by others, but I was surprised to dig a dozen old buttons. The afternoon heat started to get to me, so I called it a day.
Last weekend I had the chance to return. The first signal was about 8 feet from where I left off, a low conductive target around a 28 VDI at 4 inches deep. Out popped a "Fatty"! I was hoping for a Flying Eagle, but when I got home and cleaned it, it turned out to be an 1862 Indian Head.
Just remember how many pull tabs/bottlecaps/buttons you dig and you will be able to predict when you are due to find something good!
