One of the first pieces I found. Any feedback? I see a bird effigy one way and then sideways a mans face.
**(MODIFICATION) MAYBE I wasn't clear on exactly the image I see. A side view of a birds head only looking to the right. .ON the reverse side(the flat side) you can also see where an imprint for an eye and a line down middle of beak. Now when turned long ways ,thin side like, a mans face(only right half) (top to bottom) you see eye brow, eye (even a little color), nose and mouth. Anyone else?

Juddzilla - It is, with out question, just a rock. This question comes up a lot so I'm going to try to add a little different way for some people to think about it. There are lots of rocks in the world, lots. And when you're out looking for rocks, well usually you find some. Some rocks look like things other than rocks; animals, people, hell I found a rock that is a near perfect depiction of the western hemisphere of the globe, even the water and land are the right colors. That being said, when trying to figure out if something is an effigy or not, figure out if it WAS MADE to look like whatever you think it looks like. The rock you posted is clearly an aged pebble that is water work that then later broke. There is nothing to make anyone think the break was intentional and EVEN IF the break was intentional the nature of the stone and construct of the bird image are such that the POTENTIAL indian who broke the stone could not have intentional created your bird image. If you want to think that the bird image is so striking that probably an indian picked it up and revered it for its imagery, well no one here can say otherwise, but know that you're relying on blind faith and hope and no actual archeological clues or evidence to draw that conclusion. Not trying to be a jerk but the question of 'hey this rock looks like a ______' comes up a lot. If people would first apply there one filter and determine if the rock has even the slightest hint of manufacture to it they could answer the question themselves.

On a side note I hunted rocks living in Allentown for 5 years. If you're interested send me a note and I'll send you maps for the very few spots I know. I found a Carbon Co Chert quarry that had a decent amount of artifacts but nothing too great. Found some Bowmanstown chert blades, a little Vera Cruz jasper, nothing great but if you're struggling I can at least point you in the right direction.

Aloha Juddzilla.
I agree with the consensus thus far.... it is just a rock. with interesting shapes, true. But it is not a worked piece. a water-worn pebble that has what i call 'cloud-viewing characteristics'. A person sees an elephant another sees a fountain.... but it is still just a cloud. keep looking. There are artifacts just waiting out there .... i can hear them calling your name.lol

The eye you see is a natural inclusion that appears on opposite sides of the rock.

No signs of working so just a rock. It could have been that some person saw it and believed it to look like a bird and kept it for an effigy, but I doubt it. Wait, that has happened now. You have a good eye, keep lookin, keep postin. And yeah, I would have picked that rock up too.
