I dug this in a field next to where I found my Nova Constellatio so it could be old, but i cant find the coin in my book.

Coin has a shielded eagle with circles going around it. Only time i really see these circles like this is on the Benjamin Franklin contract issues. But cant find this pattern. Please help.
Cannot make out any marking on the other side

I wonder if it's a counterfeit? :icon_scratch:

Andres pencils help bring out a little more detail. I dont think there is enough room for united. I can make out a nd so i guess it could be mind your business like in the ben frank coins too. Makes me think its a counterfeit even more but why a counterfeit thats not even close to the actual coin pattern? I can make out slight writing around the side as well.

The 1776 Continental dollar had the words mInd your own business on the front of it. The back of your coin looks simular to it also with the chain link circles around it but the center doesn't look the same

If it was real like this one it would be worth quite a few dollars

Could you try to get a sharper image of the reverse with the rings? I'm wondering if someone might have altered the coin long ago. Maybe just corrosion -it does look a little strange though!

It's obviously old and a great historical find regardless. I love the mystery of a find like this and hunting down the answer - keep us posted, and congrats of pulling it out!

Yes it has alot of similarities but the eagle imprint is not on any of the fugio’s that i can find. The circles are similar, wording is similar, but the eagle throws it off??

Yes i now clearly see the Fugio!! But why the eagle stamp??[emoji22]

Please if you can post a sharper photo. Your original image focused on your fingers and not the coin. I would love a better look at those center features.

Its not perfectly centered, but when you flip the coin it makes sense with the obverse. I think i can see writing in the eagles wing even making it an imprint someone had done after for some reason. 🤔

Definitely says Fugio at the top. It seems to be a Fugio but highly altered by someone. The eagle stamp is clear in the back and it seems you can see an imprint of only the eagles tail here in the bottom right.

Nice ! thank you! My guess is it is a counterstamp... very interesting! I'll see what I can find out. If you can make out any of the lettering let us know.
