Beat up clay shooter marble? I believe collectors call them "Benningtons". Made of black/brown glazed pottery clay.

I'm not sure that's a clay marble. To my eye, as a long-ago Geology Minor and rock-hound, it looks like it might be polished Granite with a lot of black Mica and pink Feldspar. But of course, I could be mistaken.

I think you might be right, it feels more like it could be granite than clay.
