Detector(s) used
Minelab Equinox 900
Primary Interest:
Relic Hunting
I just had a fire in my shop that destroyed everything in it. Along with it all my relics, fossil collection, arrowhead, coin and bottle collection that took me 50+ years to root out of the ground. Thousands of bullets, buckles, buttons and hundreds of other items all melted together in one big ball of melted lead. I cried for a week every time I looked at my burned out shop now it's been a little over a month since it happened and I still get choked up when I think about it. It got all of my metal dectors, my Deus, Minelab, At pro and my Nautilus DMC 2BA. I also had several other older machines that I had retired and were wall hangers.
I had two big glass cases that held most of my relics and other things that I have collected over the years and there is no sign of the cases and most of the things that were in them.
Insurance won't cover that kind of stuff unless you buy a rider policy but to do that you have to have the things apprased by a reputable dealer that does that kind of stuff. I can replace all my detectors, hunting clothes, guns and bullets but all those things that I hunted for all those years are now just memories. I even lost most of my pictures because they were stored on a old computer I had in my shop along with my cameras I took them with.
I guess what I'm saying is think about what you have laying around and do what you can to keep from having to go through what I am now having to deal with. Even a fire safe wouldn't have helped in my case as the firemen that responded to the fire estimated that there was 2500 degrees in that building when it was at its glory. It took less than 2 hours to destroy what took me years of my life to build.

Sorry to hear but buddy

Sorry for your loss sir.....I am speechless....I had a very disturbing mental image of your destruction, but it was my stuff getting destroyed.....I do have a fire proof safe, but should get it all put away. That's just a horrible scenario.....again my condolences.

feeling your pain sir and am at a loss for words.:'(

So Sorry for your loss Mxdigger.... Sending prayers and love and positive encouragement. Just glad there was no loss of life buddy 🙏

My heart is breaking for you. I can't even imagine. I'm so sorry.

Best solution is to put the good stuff in a safe deposit box, but that's not much fun. The joy of finding old coins and relics is looking at them and showing them off to friends and relatives.

I hate to read stories like this one. If it happened to me, I would never pick up a detector again. It would totally kill my interest in this hobby.

I did not give your post a "Like", there was nothing in it any of us would even care to think about. MX, I TRULY am so sorry to hear of it, I am thinking something like that would stop me cold in my tracks for any future detecting, 35+ years for me, 50+ for you. I really am sorry our friend.

Dude, that really sucks but at least nobody was hurt or killed. One thing everyone can do is make a digital photo album which should be safe in the cloud. Would be at least some small consolation being able to look at and show pictures of the finds. With that I think I’d be willing to start over again.

Sorry for your loss, it has to suck.

I have some insurance on my indian artifacts and find arts through State Farm, I gave them pictures of everything and I have pictures as well. I wasn't required to have them appraised, my policy is for $50k.
