And with the current metal detecting shows on TV, I fear it will only get worse.

What shows? Meteor men?

Maybe they have a thing against Plums :dontknow: :laughing7:

There is also a Plum Island in NY and that has been government property since I can remember. The sad part is that island has some nice history behind it dating back to the mid 1600's, and again during the American revolution, and other wars to follow. It was later turned to a scientific center for bio chemistry and other nasty experiments. It seems they want to sell the island now, but the cleanup, and testing to see if it's suitable for humans will be in the millions.

I wonder if any of the workers ever had a chance to give that island a good going over :icon_scratch: If and when they do get to cleaning up that area, I know they will have to remove tones of top soil.. I just hope they dump it in a area where people may have some access. :tongue3:

Are those fed, state, county, or city owned beaches? And when you say you "found out the hard way", do you mean that you got booted? Or that you called up or asked a kiosk clerk, .... or ?

I went there and tried to use the sign to back me up. The lady at the entrance didn't know squat but the park officer said "I'm the law and your not doing that in here."
Ya, so I left. I went in there before and poked around a few months before that, its like a bird reserve or somethin?
There's history of shipwrecks there I think too. *******s.
I refuse to do hampton beach any more. A few years back I tried and got bombarded by an angry old man. He told me to find a different beach because he works that one...lol
Plum island, ordione point and bear brook are all state. the are open to the public but not metal detecting. Their sign now I believe says no removal of metal, historic items or artifacts. Bear brook you can on the beach only.
