Last week my pick up credit union called to say they are moving their cash delivery day from Thursday to Tuesday. She regreted to tell me that she didn't get my order in for this week, so I'd have to skip a week. The week of no coins is upon me, but I took it up on myself to do some free styling over lunch yesterday in order to find some new coins. I drove south of my home and picked up a box of nickels and box of cents. They were handed to me as Brinks boxes. At first, I thought "Hey, a different source" as all I can get is Wells Fargo supplied Loomis coins in NF Strings boxes. When I got home and opened them I saw they were clear wrapped. I figured if these produced better than the NF Strings supply I would go back and ask for dimes....well....as you can see, I'm undecided about trying the source of clear wrapped dimes because my results were pretty average...but my results were based on 1 nickel box...so...meh.
$100 in Nickels (1 boxes)
Box1: 28 Pre 1960s, 1 Queen Beaver, and a 1942S Silver War Nickel in AU55 Condition. This one was a surprise. No dark tarnish, just a light green tone. I can make out 5 of the steps on the back.
Running average comes to 19 war nickels out of 26 boxes. 0.73/box!
$25 in Cents (1 boxes)
Box1: 4 common Wheats, a 1940S Wheat and a 1935D Wheat to fill holes in my old books. 5 Queen Maples Leafs were also found, but most suprising of all is a Copper Blank Planchet. It has the raised edge from the upsetter, but no obverse or reverse. Weighs out at 3.1g, so it must be from Pre-1982.
I'm not too pleased with doing cents. If it weren't for the blank planchet I'd be angry that I wasted my time.
