Check under the floorboards around the fireplaces if you can! I've had great luck in a few houses where the floor around the fireplace was rotted away. Also in one house on my parents property which we tore down, the mantle held a treasure trove of things which were lost in a crack behind it including cigarette cards, tons of combs, match books, etc.

got a good score under a false step on a staircase in an old victorian house once fun stuff
