Point I found over the weekend

Could anyone identify this artifact for me? Found in a creek in Southern illinois

I'm not familiar with Illinois point types but it's nice.

It has the silhouette of a Scottsbluff. Can't see details of flaking. Dang nice point at any rate.

Has a Hardin look to it but probably a Hopewell due to the rounded base stem. Maybe someone from your area will know. It’s a very good looking point

Very nice find, it does have a Scottsbluff profile and they are found in Illinois.

I don't think Stringtown but similar. It is a common form across many types. Form follows function.

from the photo I thought hardin right off but when I read the comment on Scottsbluff, it possible it could be a Scottsbluff

an in person review or more information would be needed since the Scottsbluff and hardin have the same profile depending on resharpenings. the Scottsbluff a transitional paleo and the hardin a early archaic .

is the blade beveled from being resharpening? what is the cross section?

Yes it’s almost 4 inches

Yea, I think I am sticking with Scottsbluff!

The flaking on that point is too poor to be a Scottsbluff. Hinge fractures all over it. Scotties always have impeccable collateral flaking, not random like the OPs point. . Check Google images for Scottsbluff points and you will see the flaking that I’m talking about.

I’m kind of in the not Scottsbluff camp as stated before Cody complex stuff seems to have top notch flaking. And I’ll trust Toddspoint has the term down with collateral but definitely a distinctive type of flaking

Agree, just the outline is similar but nothing else. It could be a worn down Copena, even an Adena type. Flaking looks Woodland era.
