The wife and I went for a hike along the Colorado River (San Saba County) the other day.

Some people gripe about broken points, I never understood it! Full points or fragments, they're still great finds!

The broken bases/ears/tips go in glass vases on the bookshelves, and the complete points go in frames.
That's the only difference.

I found a broken quartz one today. It still went home with me. Nice finds, rock

A broke any thing is a great find some days when that's all that you found. Those are some good finds:icon_thumleft:

Those are nice, I keep all brokes and have no shame in doing so....love'em.
Not sure why some here think so?

Why would you not keep a broken piece? Its an artifact and that's what we are all looking for.

When I find them it tells me there should be a whole one in the area or it could of been a impact fracture.

Nice Finds! You never know, on your next hunt you may just find the missing piece.

I've recently learned that some get points "certified" or graded. I've been picking up points since I was a little kid and didn't know this at all!

I know mine are authentic, I picked em up myself!

I suppose assigning a monetary amount to an artifact is some folks style, and a broken point is "worthless" or worth LESS.

Shoot im gonna make a frame for my broke points lol . There's lots to learn from a broke piece either way nice finds;)

It is an artifact with a history.

Values to a hand flaked stone artifact is way under rated IMO. They are little pieces of art to me. I enjoy finding each piece even if they are broken in half.

I completely understand.

However, as a flint knapper myself... I believe that there should be an unspoken rule that all modern-knapped points should be engraved or "hallmarked" in a minute way by the knapper so as not to be pawned off as authentic to the honest and uninformed.

Call me crazy, but that's my opinion!

The honest ones that make them will put a dot on the item with a color pen.

Tejaas, So happy for you & your wife. They are great finds.

I agree, but good luck with that...
You would be surprised if you knew the number of fakes shown here.
You have some nice finds, I hope you your luck continues.

Haha exactly. "Good luck with that".

A lot of folks prolly make a good chunk of income from professionally passing off moderns as authentic!
