First 75 degree day and I got lucky enough to have an early appointment that kept me from working today. Thats lucky enough... but then we finally got permission from a landowner whom we have been stalking and pestering. He told us that there wasnt anything down there. More luck... but we didnt find anything but a few flint flakes for the first hour or more. Thats when we found the crystal in the pic. Not sure if it was natural or a native item. I found my largest clay shard... and my biggest flint. We found enough clay and flint to fill a half gallon jug along with the 6 mostly complete points. Anybody have any ideas on this big flint. I am thinking its some sort of tool. The end looks tooled but its beat up. Much of it looks natural though. Maybe a hand ax or a preform. Either way we had an awesome day and a good start to the year.

Not sure if I posted any of these but they are from the last few months in our usual stomping grounds.

Very nice finds! Hope you find much more.

Your big piece might be a hoe.

Way to go, that big relic is probably a hoe:thumbsup:

All great finds! and good thing you pestered the landowner because that is going to be a productive spot from the looks of what you found!

its a piece of pottery. i have a bucket full of it but thats the biggest chunk I have found yet.

The piece you think might be a hoe or tool looks natural to me with natural breaks, congrats on the other points....

i thought that too but there seems to be flaking on the wider end. I will try to post some better pics when I can.

You did great!!! I'm sure you will go back and when you do...hope you find many more artifacts!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Could be a hoe but yeah better pics will help. Rough material Im guessing NC area? You got some good looking finds.

here are the picture of the flint. It is pretty raw and its got 2 breaks. It may be hard to see but the texture on the blade end is rubbed on both sides and smooth. The rest of the piece is rough. It appears to me atleast to be knapped at the blade end but very worn. I could be easily wrong and welcome scrutiny.

I would also like some opinions on some other rocks I found last year but am on the fence about. IMG_20160310_220337.webpIMG_20160310_220421.webpIMG_20160310_220434.webpIMG_20160310_220622.webpIMG_20160310_220616.webp

I don't think your latest photos came through, but from your original photos, it's clear enough that the big piece is artifactual. Maybe an agricultural tool. Just made from a lesser grade lithic. In my own region, such tools are often fashioned from sandstone, but I'm not familiar with the rock in this instance. Just pretty certain it has been shaped somewhat. Can see flaking in a couple areas....

ok I edited the post to include the new pics

Maybe a rough Celt...mjm

It's real hard to tell but from the other pics you can see wear on the bit end. Nice finds.

Yea work on the bit of the 1st one so some kind of tool.
