In light of the "Why do you CRH" poll, I was just curious how did all of you hear about CRH?

When I first heard about CRH, I was doing some research about a bunch of coins my grandpa gave me a long time ago. I found this forum and started off in the 'Coins' section then stumbled on this section of the website and have been hooked ever since.

They would be the nonposting crowd- what would you expect from soandsos protoges. O yea sharing hahahahahahaha. Something for nothing only goes so far. HH Mark
Must have choked on that box of pennies like I predicted.

Have not choked yet!! I read and started because of the W & E Treasures article. I'm hooked. and I do and have been very active on this site ever since. DON"T KNOW WHAT SOANDSOS PROTOGES ARE BUT DOESN'T SOUND NICE!!! SHAME!

Good Hunting!!!!!!!!!

I read about it here. Almost didn't even try it, 'cause I thought "NO WAY". But said what the heck and bought a few rolls of halves. Found a 40% and thought "HELL YEAH" and now my wife says I'm addicted. LOL.

A big thanks to all the contributors to this forum that heard about CRH through the W&E Treasures Magazine......

Thanks for voting......

I'm one of the two people (so far on the poll) who read about it in W&E. I started in the middle of December 2007 searching halves only and have found over 210 (40% & 90% combined), (1) 1992 commemorative, (4) 1974D ddo, (2) trick/magic halves, (40+) NIFC, and (1) die trial strike, (1) counter stamped, and (15) proofs. I try and search about $2,000+ face each week.

I actually heard about this a while back when I stumbled upon this website. I don't remember what I was originally looking for though...

Ditto Gman00001 and Ferabi

I can remember back in grammar school going to a local S&L (remember those?) and getting a roll of dimes for something and the whole roll was practically silver (this was early 70's) and I kept going back to the bank getting more dimes, it was comical really. I tried a roll of quarters, same thing. Finally, I had all my newspaper money savings converted to silver and took this silver and cashed it in - I can't remember what I got back then, but I had enough to buy a new Raleigh 10 speed with my "earnings" and my seed money left over - not bad.

I've been at it ever since - sometimes in waves, always on the lookout though.

I'm writing a fantasy piece on CRH/treasure hunting - I'll post it here somewhere when it's done. I'm not a writer, but I think my fellow CRHers and THunters will get a smile on their faces when they read it.

Finally, I found TreasureNet.com from a URL somewhere else,

You are a terrific bunch of folks and I enjoy reading about your successes and failures,

I did it when I was a kid and quit for some reason. Then when I was off work for some reson I got a bug up my butt and decided to start it up again. Im not sure really why. But it was around 1989 when I first searched them. Could only get $100 at a time though.

From the looks of it this section of the forum is hurting our hobby more then helping it.

In the early 70's my Dad had a thing for nickels, back then he would still find occassinal buffalo, but mostly focused on silver. This actually started me coin collecting. But I didn't start CRH until 2000 when I went to a bank to get some rolls for a cash register, then decided to check them before they went into the drawer. Thats when I found my first wheatie in a roll, now I just get them about once a month or so and have found some silver. I was shocked when I joined this forum and this section. Well, silver is hard to come by these days where I live... 8)

There was a link to this forum on another website I visit, maybe GIM.

I thought I had thought of something that no one else had thought of. boy was I wrong.

Yes this is a old thread brought back to life. :icon_sunny:

When I was just starting to collect coins I was lucky enough to get a "part time" job rolling coins for a local grocery store.

I was seven, my dad was friends with the owner. Every Saturday morning my dad would drop me off at the main store and I would go back into the offices where they would dump the weeks worth of change in front of me. My job was to roll it.

This was back in the late 70's / early 80's. The owner paid me something along the lines of 2 or 3 cents per roll. Might not sound like a lot but when you're 7 and trying to put a collection together it was an awesome job. I'd end up making 4 or 5 bucks which the owner would pay me with coins I'd pulled.

I was able to pull lots of silver / wheats / buffalos. When silver had it's great big runup in the early 80's I sold most of my spares and was able to clear just over $1k. Talk about being a FLUSH grade schooler!

I probably still have some of the wheats in my spare collection. I have no idea what happened to the buffalos.

VERY cool story cypress.

As for me, I discovered the hobby on my own. My grandfather passed his folders onto my father, and then once I got old enough to appreciate them, I got the urge to add to the empty slots and the only way I could think of to do this was to look through rolls of coins from the bank.

I found my first and only standing liberty quarter (pretty beat up) when I FIRST started CRHing like 6-8 years ago. I wish I had stuck to it back then when I was young, as I'm sure the yeilds were much better. ;)

One month ago (Nov 2007) somebody that I know innocently asked me if silver could still be found in loose change. I had never heard of CRH and thought about what he said. I figured that since I never saw Kennedy's any more and I could get them at the bank, odds were pretty good that there might be something. One week ago I went to the bank and asked if they had any rolls and the teller next to me spoke up and said they just got one box in. I didn't know what the box cost but said OK I will take it. I was surprised $500 could weigh so much.

That is a quote from my very first post on this group over 1.5 years ago. Boy was I a greenhorn back then. :tongue3:

I voted word of mouth but I really thought I had an original idea and would do an "LJ" boy was I wrong :o Glad I found this forum. ;D

I actually came up with CRH on my own. Saw the article and came to Tnet after reading the article, from the magazine a new friend showed me, after I told him about my hobby, that I developed on my own 3 + years ago.
