Re: Portland Cement Tool?

I think it might be a tool for "pointing" bricks

Re: Portland Cement Tool?

I beleive that that tool gets a string attached to it,and is wedged between two cinder blocks. It takes two of these tools, one on each end.The mason would then tightly pull the string and use it as a guide to lay that coarse .

I have seen those used. Could the string tie onto the notches perhaps?

Just my opinion, but it looks like an advertising letter opener.

Re: Portland Cement Tool?

I'm a contractor, and I can tell you it is for setting blocks and bricks. they use these to maintain a straight line over a long distance. you start laying the block and brick on both ends, then you wedge these between the top edges and follow the line as you're setting the blocks or bricks.
BTW they are not rare, you can buy them new from the local brickyard for a buck apiece

Correct!

And they are called Brick Line Pins. And correct again...You can get a set of 4 for $5.00

Ok thanks. I googled "brick line pin" and finally found one. They use different types but this style is still in use today. I needed a name so I could google the image. http://images.google.com/imgres?img...ck+line+pins&start=40&ndsp=20&um=1&hl=en&sa=N SOLVED solved check.gif

Isn't it great that we have so many different people here at TNet, that, as a group, can figure out just about every item???
