Poss. cortes problem, Help

Just purchased a used cortes, my first T.I.D. machine, my question is that when I turn the detector on I get the initial tone that it is on then instead of it reading that it is in disc or all metal the screen reads to lift the coil then it reads iron or foil, now it does this whether the coil is pointed towards the ground or up in the air, whether I am inside or outside after about 10-20 sec it will read disc on the screen but as soon as I move it slightly it starts to read like I past an object again, seems like every time I bump it or move it slightly the display changes, also I know that manual ground balance does not work in disc mode but moving the dial while in disc causes the readings to go crazy, is this all something that is normal and I don't have it tuned right or should I have it sent in to Tesoro. Any and all help welcome thanks dwmedic

Sorry DW but I think you'll have to send it in for repairs. I've had one for a little ove three years now and not a bit of trouble from it and when I turn it on or move it I don't get any thing like you have described. Don't worry, even tho you bought it used Tesoro will still honor the warranty.

Mine doesn't behave like that either. I too had a problem when I bought mine used. The all-metal mode would null over a target instead of giving a signal. I sent it in, and Tesoro fixed it for free. You are actually in a pretty good position. You are going to get your machine fixed, and tuned as well. Make sure you send the coil in too. My machine came back working like a champ, and has me digging coins at very impressive depths. It is probably better than average, as the Tesoro technicians worked their magic on it, as opposed to just another coming off the assembly line. Yours should have the same outcome. You may want to call James at Tesoro and explain the problem. He may be the owner, but he is easy to talk to, and you will be impressed with how important customer satisfaction is to him. Even though you bought used, he will treat you well. The phone number is on their web-site.

One more suggestion, ask them about sending a sample of your most common soil along with your detector. They will balance the discrimination mode to your soil.

And like mentioned make sure you send the coil with it.

Thanks Badger always enjoy your posts, now the cortes only reads iron and foil, calling tesoro first thing in the morning. Hope its not to serious. Took the silver out today couple of nickles to show for it, wasn't out that long.
