My buddy and I got out today here in N Virginia where we live to a new site that will soon be lost to development. There was a known Confederate battery here from 1861-1863;many round balls, and friction primers have been recovered including a few shell fragments. I dug what appears part of a friction primer, gun tool part and possible frag? The “possible” frag I’m not quite sure of. Anyone she’ll experts can confirm what this piece of iron is? The Deus 2 did ok at this pounded location which will soon be lost to development. Happy Hunting diggers

So far as I know, there weren't any artillery shells with a rib on them like this piece has.
