Ok first off it's 6" long and 1" square with the "mushroom" end 1 5/16" by 1".
The hole on the end is 1/2" and 2 5/16" deep.
The broken protruding attachment is counter sunk on one side and threaded on the other.
There are two threaded holes in that flat base.
I hope the text on my pictures show.

Found this and thought it had the feeling of being a gun part or it could be just a piece of farm equipment.
thought I would do a bit of cleaning and see if there was anything stamped into it.
the best I can tell...
U ? (S)
SNO??? (REH)
MIDL? (E)
CONN
1840

So... Anyone got any ideas???

Thanks for the help

The breech on the Hall had a unique feature. Removed from the rifle it could still be fired. During the Mexican War the Dragoons carried them when on leave like pistols into the local cantinas and there was at least one bar fight that was settled with one.

Ben, Todd and Charlie You are amazing.
I know it reminded me of a gun part, but I had no idea what it may have been from or how it would have worked.
Your links are great !
Thank you for your insight.

and Tony... I only found this part and no little pieces, so doubt there is any more to be found.:(
