Last week in a post I mentioned that I had found some magnetic rocks in a riverbed. After closer inspection, I noticed how odd a few of them look. These four are all very rounded and pitted, there are holes much like in pumice. But since I'm in Minnesota, they can't be a product of volcanic activity. My next thought was that they were simply rocks conglomerated together with rust, but that's not the case, either.

Then their attraction to a magnet gave the idea that they might be meteorite fragments. I know nothing about them, unfortunately, but I am hoping someone in the community here does. Do these look like meteorite fragments to any of you?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Geological forums has a meteorite forum, it's down a lot farther in the forums list, if you don't get an answer here.
Looks like melted metal but I don't know, I think they have flecks in them too sometimes.
Congrats! I hope it is!

Do they feel relatively heavy for their size?

Wow, ???

Someone post meteorites that may actually be meteorites :icon_scratch: They look and sound genuine to me. As someone said post them on the Geological forums. I'd also take them to a nearby collage Geological center if you have a nearby collage... Very cool find I really hope they are real !!

Keep @ it and HH !!

My scale is not working at the moment, but using a balance and some pennies, I think they weigh around 5-7g apiece.

As someone said post them on the Geological forums.

I didn't even know we had a geological forum here! Shows how much I know... I'll be posting this there right away.

Thank you all for the rapid responses! I may be able to get someone in a geological department to look at them, too. :icon_thumright:

Looks like slag or coke from a furnass to me. Sometimes called a clinker. Geologyjohn.
