I found this 30 years ago when I first got into metal detecting. I had misplaced it and just rediscovered it while cleaning out my attic. I originally found this near a creek in upstate New York. The area where I found it dates back to the early 1700's and is near a site of a Revolutionary War fort. The overall length is just under 10 inches and the blade is 5-1/2 inches. It is iron and the thickness is 0.120 inch. It appears that the blade was sharpened on both cutting edges but this is hard to determine due to the corrosion. I have searched the web but cannot find anything that matches the shape. It would appear that it is a knife or possibly a letter opener. Any help in identifying this would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Morgandollar

Newer throwing knife. Here's a pic of mine I bought around 1971 from the Johnson-Smith Co. Same dimensions.

thanks everyone for your quick response, I agree that's what it is. I found it in 1978, so I guess it was in the ground for only a few years.
