I went down to the river banks and found the usual crusty clad and this interesting item.
It was in bad shape until I gave it a good lemon juice-olive oil soaking.
I was able to make out AMA at the top.
Cleveland was visible under the AMA.
Bottom left reads 1941.
The serpent around the staff lower center tells me the AMA stood for American Medical Association.
There is some print under Cleveland I can't make out.
The individual on the left looks like a soldier with a long gun rifle.
On the back there is something printed on the bottom.
REG is in the print.
I would appreciate any info on this.
Token, metal, souvineer?

Not a Token. Badge maybe.
Looks like something Posted here before.

Can you Clear up the Letters ?

I'm not Sure on the Top NHIA ? NIIIA ? NHLA ? NIHA ? NLHA ? NMA ? RMA ?
I'm 99% Confident on the N 90% on the A

The date Bottom Left Looks like 1941 but when I stare I wonder if it's 1841

There are 3 Lines in between, I can't read at All yet

What I believe you have is a medal from the National Medical Association, Cleveland chapter, 1941. The bottom symbol is a Caduceus in the ring, slightly tilted to the right. The NMA is an association promoting African American doctors and patients since 1895, I believe. Cheers, Sub 8-)

A tie tack would be my guess, and Subterranean's answer sounds good... only other variation on that might be a conference pin. Might be worth checking to see if such a thing occurred in Cleveland in 1941.
edit: There was a meeting June 3, 1941... don't know if that date might be part of the text on this?

Yes at first it did look like NMA but at certain angles it looks like an A
Do both AMA and NMA use the same serpent-staff logo?
And yes when first found before cleaning, even with my bad eyes, at the site, it sure looked like 1841.
Cleaning opened up the bottom of the number to closer identify it as a 9. I will look closer at this number.
I will do a search on this forum for the other one posted and hopefully it was posted with a picture.
This is the part of a find I really enjoy.
Thanks for the feedback.

I see what you mean by the Indent here. oooo.webp

However , if it is the NMA

The National Medical Association (NMA) is the nation's oldest and largest organization representing African American physicians and health professionals in the United States. ... The NMA was founded in 1895.

This would out the 1841 Possibility unfortunatly

if it's actually AMA as it appears here,IMG_4714.webp

the last number would need to be 7 for it to be 1847 which it does not appear to be

American Medical Association (AMA), professional physicians' organization (founded 1847). Its goals are to protect the interests of American physicians, advance public health, and support the growth of medical science.

unless of course they are wrong on the Founding date.
