OK, I get the idea that when winter comes, water seeps into the cracks in our roads and erodes them. And the freezing water expands and breaks our roads apart. I get all that.

But where do the big chunks of our roads go? I mean, one day there's a huge hole about a foot deep where no hole was the day before! Did the road turn to dust and blow away? Did it sink into middle earth where some Hobbitt was crushed when it fell from the sky? (Which is ok by me...I dislike Hobbitts.)

To me, pot holes are as mysterious as crop circles.

I think, as part of our national economic recovery, we need to have a labor force of "road patrol" personnel...specifically tasked with documenting any pot hole occurrence. We need to identify where our roads are going, one two foot hole at a time!

P.H.A.T! Pot Hole Action Team...defending our streets, no...just our streets...not us...our streets.

You got that right, it's almost like the vanishing sock in the dryer ;D The way I see it is that once the ground is already giving, any car that hits the damaged area crushes and pops up a little piece of the roadway. You'll even notice that many times when you are driving you'll hear a ping across your windshield, that is caused by a car hitting a smaller fragment. Either that, or it's those little gremlins :laughing9:
