So, recently I read an article on what pennies to look out for in circulation. The article said to look out for a “1982 d copper small date cent.” It also said it would weigh 3.1 grams.

I looked at a 1982 d penny I found. Here is a picture.

Just for a laugh, I weighed it on a jewelry scale, thinking, “This won’t weigh 3.1 grams. I doubt it’s a rare coin.”

Then, my jaw dropped.

I then thought to myself, “Dude, is this a small date?”

Another test. Jaw dropped again.

The lines are from the electric magnifier.

Unbelievable. Could this be a 1982 d copper small date?

I at least know it’s copper from the weight. It does look like a small date to me.

Maybe I should get this professionally verified......

Anyway, just wanted to share this find. Valuable or not, at least I am looking out for this type of stuff!

Most of the 1982 pennies I sort through are copper rather than zinc.

Definitely a large date, so only worth face value. The best way for me to tell is the shape of the 2 and the distance of the 2 from the rim.
