After all this rain, I decided to go looking and found this. Is it pottery or just a rock? Thanks as always! 725DBB6C-7676-4019-8D50-97C9268BBA6B.webp 655F4C4A-AFD0-4038-A7FB-137EBE248B91.webp 165A6CCF-25B4-4516-8541-7F7DB050A55F.webp 69EEDC13-4233-44C0-920C-7E5FA375DBD6.webp 6AC37E0F-67F5-4ACB-98A2-3D6B3281E1CA.webp

Ceramics breaks easily, the stone will resist.

Look at the edge and look for bits of grass with the clay is one way to help ID pottery or find someone that has collected a lot of it. I have a 5 gallon bucket of it so I have a pretty good idea if it is pottery when I find it.

Yes, looks to be tempered pottery just eroded away design but nice find was it in water ?

Yes, and a nice little piece!

Thanks for the responses and tips guys. I figured it to be pottery as it appeared to have grit temper and I have found pottery in the area before, but sometimes I'm just not sure. I found it in the water, like a previous piece. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Looks like a piece of pottery to me that has been in the creek or river.

I'd say yes to decorated pottery. Nice find. We used to find it here but not much anymore.
