April has not been a good month for finds so far and if it don't rain soon I'm not going to even bother until it does. The first pic is of a creek up the mountain that has been know for placer gold in the late 1860's and later. As you can tell it's no use to look for artifacts in it but I did anyway with no luck. The hike up the mountain was good though with no sightings of snakes, skunks or bears...those are my biggest fears in that area of my neighborhood. We did find a pile of turkey feathers and a tree with obvious bear scratchings but they were old ones. WP_20160416_001.webp

Both of these shards I found in my creek, the first one I found last Thursday raking thru a sand bar and it's a pic of it right after I picked it up.

This one I found again raking sandbars downstream after we came back from our hike today. The pattern is a different one than I normally find and here are 3 views of it. I really wish I could find the stone stuff more often but not unhappy with the pottery at all. HH to everyone!

Sory your finds have been slim, nice to see you post again, good pottery

Good finds!! Your creeks are much better than the ones down here. My creek has too much sand. Tony

In my creek the sand bars have rock and gravel mixed in when you get below a certain point but if I rake in a sandbar and don't find that spot I move on most times unless a shard of glass washes up, that's what happened yesterday. I rounded the bend and saw the amber glass shard peeking out so raked and let the water work, then the NA pottery came up. After raking it the same way for a little bit nothing else came up so I moved on. Luck plays a big part :dontknow:

I think you should make yourself a screen box and dig in the creek bed and sift it through the screen. The reason I say this is if you are finding the pottery and have found a point in this creek, then there are more there to be found. In my area I have done screening in areas that the pottery shows up and I find points much deeper due to the fact that they are much heavier, because under the sand and gravel will be a higher concentration of rocks. Give it a try I think you will have good luck with it. That creek you show the photo of ,I would be all over it.

Nice finds! I keep all the pottery and flakes (of rhyolite) I find in creeks. Happy hunting!

Glad to see you are finding something lately. On the last piece is it fingernail markings? I havent found any like that here yet. I do know if I go to the creek and find pottery and flake tools the water is to high to find points which will settle the the bottom. When the water goes down and it gets some fresh rain on it then the flint pieces will show. I did a hunt the other day and found nothing but pottery and flake knife which told me the creek was to high to see anything else.
