Pottery ID Help, Please

[Valley Ranger]

Last fall, I found some pottery pieces on a site that had activity dating from, I believe, the late 18th century to the late 19th century. There was a pottery shop on premises. I know nothing about dating black glass or pottery shards, so any help with these would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks Quindy! I should have been a bit more specific. I was wondering if the pattern on the shard would provide any evidence as to age, etc. I've yet to be out diggin' this year. The flu, bronchitis, and frozen ground has kept me indoors! Hope all is well with you and yours.
