Some are pretty interesting. I did the white backgrounds in Photoshop but I did not change any color settings....enjoy!

Glad you enjoyed them! Photoshop works great for the pottery but if you try to use it on points it is hard. It is to easy to accidentally alter the appearance.

I have found shards with similar patterns. Which area they from? Great lakes?

when i look i see some resemble mandan-hidatsa-arikara pottery from the dakotas and eastern montana
the 6th course down the first one on the left with the rainbow looks exactly like some mandan rim sherds i find over the last 50 yrs

Unfortunately we never marked where pottery came from. I believe most of this is from Missouri and some may be from the northern South Dakota.

It very well could be. I have quit a few Arikara Culture points from my grandfather who collected them from the central south Dakota - North Dakota boarder area. A few of the lighter sand colored pieces are marked Missouri. The majority of pottery shards that I have found over the years is from Iowa and Minnesota and most of it is older as it lacks the tiny shell fragments found in Mississippian pottery.

This is just a small sampling of shards like this. I have another piece that I will eventually post, which is an entire pot rim. It is in three pieces and measures around 10 inches wide. it includes the neck and on a few of the pieces about 8 inches of the side of the pot. I would love to have it put together and displayed in a lighted acrylic case.
