My dad is an active man and also enjoys metal detecting. If I could ever teach him to use a computer I know he would love this site. Last week we found out he has colon cancer. This Friday he is going in for surgery. He is 72yrs old and it was just over a year ago that my mom died of throat cancer then 2 weeks later dad told us he had it and started treatment. His treatment for the throat cancer was a success, but sadly now he faces another challenge. So I ask that you keep us all in your prayers.

I have heard of colon cancer before but really didn't know anything about it. It seems its the #2 killer of cancer in the US and one of the easier ones to treat if caught earlier. If detected early you have a 90% chance. Many people show no symptoms until the cancer has progressed and that is where the problem lies. If folks were better educated in regards to this and got screened early for it then it wouldn't claim so many lives. In that respect for one year starting in August. I will donate all of my metal detecting clad to a group promoting colon cancer awareness. I have created a fund raiser page through them and I am asking for your help as well. If any of you are able to do so I would appreciate you donating one months clad finds for this cause. If you want to just donate a buck or two or anything you are able to that is fine as well. You coin roll hunters if you would like to donate $1 for every box or $1 for every month or anything it would be greatly appreciated also. I am sure everyone of you have lost someone or know someone who has had a battle with cancer. This is a way that if everyone pitches in just a little it can have a large impact. If you can't afford to or don't want to that is fine as well. I will still love you! I just felt compelled to do this since it has hit so close to home. Here is the link Thanks!

I just made it back but wanted to update you about my dad. The surgery was suppose to be only 2hrs it turned into 7, along with the colon part they also removed his gall blader. He is doing good though. They had him in and out on drugs for the past couple todays, today though he was alert and they made him move around a bit. He started to complain..so since he can be a grumpy old man sometimes I take it as a good sign. I am back in the valley right now since all is good for the time. I am going to work this week and then take some time off when he comes home to help him. Until then my brother will be there at the hospital.. I pity him especially when dad finds out that intead of 5 or 6 days it will be 10. I will keep you posted and our family thanks you very much for your prayers.

Prayers and best wishes are on the way girl.
Am dealing with a mom with breast cancer this last year,
so keep us posted as to how YOU are doing as well.
It is just as rough on those who are giving care.

Be sure to have some time for yourself, and use it.
It is very important.

Drop me a line if you need to talk
Or just let it out
We need that too.

Thom

Thanks Thom and you do the same just drop me a line if you need to talk

They moved dad out of ICU yesterday into a room, made him get up and walk around but when he got out of bed he put to much weight on his knee and it popped and is now swollen. He is doing really well other than that. He is a big time coffee drinker, like all day long he drinks it. Poor thing has not been able to have any thing to eat or drink since last Thursday. They will start him on a liquid diet today, but to his great disappointment coffee will not be on the menu for a while more.

Thanks for all your support and prayers it means a great deal. Now that he is starting to feel a little better please pray for his nurses and hospital staff to have the patience to deal with him. At his best he can be a hard headed, set in his ways, grumpy old man, add being stuck in the hospital and not getting coffee, and you can just imagine. Poor nurses, and doctors.

Prayers on the way for your Dad & you & your family. Lost my better half to colon cancer. It will be three years ago on the 20th of this month.

I am so sorry to hear that treasure diver.

Here is the update I am going back to dads today. He is suppose to be in the hospital until Monday, however he informed my brother that if my brother is not there as of noon today he would take a taxi home (over an hour away). He said one way or the other he was leaving today. Knowing dad I am surprised they have been able to keep him as long as they have. Yesterday he decided to go to the rest room, and the nurses aid was going to assist him he told her no and to disconnect the iv for a minute, she wouldn't do it and told him to wheel it with him. Well he took it upon himself to disconnect the iv and went to the rest room. Then came the nurse who gave him a butt chewing while she reconnected the iv. I have a feeling they may not try to talk him out of leaving today after all. If he is feeling this rowdy then he needs to go home to his coffee and bed and hound dog and peace and quiet. So I will be leaving today to help him out and won't be back until mid next week. I will be in the sticks again with no internet.

well as promised he walked out of the hospital Friday at noon. All the staff was baffled and didn't know what to do. His doctor refused to come by and see him. So on his way out a nurse stopped him and said the doc said, to tell him he wouldn't get the antibodics that he needed and good luck finding someone to take the staples out, because the doc refused to see him again.

Monday I took dad to the va clinic and explained everything and they took half of the staples out for him and he will get the rest out this Friday. He is taking it easier, resting better than he was in the hospital, plus he got to go home to his dog and coffee. So he is doing very very well. Thanks for all of your support and prayers.
