Pre 1960 nickels

each week I package (8) nickels 1939-1949 skipping the war years and doubling up on one year.. these sell at the auction for between 2 and 9 dollars... I dont understand it either... just keep finding and selling these coins

"a coin is only worth what someone's willing to pay for it"

i sold some bicentennial halves for 75c a year ago
pre-60 nickels for 2x face
and NIFC's for a little more than face - still easier than dumping

if people are willing to pay for it, that a good enough reason to keep them

Minton, which auction? Ebay?

Most likely people have albums that they want to fill. They don't want to have to search through huge numbers of wild coins to find what they need. (They may not even realize that the older ones can still be found in the wild).
Also, the mintages of many of the early Jeffersons are pretty low.

I just take tothe local consignment auction.... (8) nickels or 40 cents gives me at least 2 bucks... good trade :)
