Out with Ironhorse 2 days ago and failed at finding a new site but the scrapings off a couple of hunted ones weren't bad. These are my best of the day... 4 early French Marine buttons (Compagnies Franches de la Marine) and a cool weight with a lion stamp.

In a temporary semi freeze at the moment, but can still get the shovel in ground and warmer temps coming! The hunts shall go on.

They are, but are under-appreciated probably because they are not marked. None were during this period and I'm not sure if there is anything else that is as old which you can say in certain terms is a military button.

You weren't kidding when you said they were in good shape..fantastic finds!
The scale weight is a nice find too...hopefully some good digging this week and some more goodies to find

Great buttons, but that weight is just awesome! Congratulations!

Nice finds, congratulations.

Great buttons great patina! I have to say if I found a blank button like that I would know it was colonial era but I'd have no idea that it was French Military. The weight is awesome. I'd really like to find one of those some day. Thanks for sharing.

Its a 4-Penny Bullion Weight.

Once you find one of those buttons and have a chance to hold them in your hand, the rest become unmistakable.

The crazy thing is my ancestor had a very very high chance that they were theirs...being found on their site...awesome shape..first time i see a full shank on these
