Hi all The last few hours of the day when the temp is cooled too 93 degrees, i headed up to a site of a Primary Source Hard Rock Gold Mine. Summer fire control burn off's revealed an old shaft which until recent times had been hidden under heavy growth for many years. Once a mine which belonged to large mining company which operated the site from 1852 till 1929. 3 main shafts with winders and Twin Harkness & Sons Engines ,which also powers the 3 quartz stamper battery's. In addition had 2 x 900 water-baling tank shafts. Surface scatterings of burn and recent regrowth flora. Both native and introduced plants and trees. Most of the Equipment and building moved others mining locations on closure. Tailings mountains remain and ore grading by site . Large rock rubbish , semi crushed 'shale' ore A Positive indicator of final crushing process incomplete . Small shale ore heaps from ore cart drops and incorrect positioning in grading process. Shale grade also found in manual hammer break up yard as some ore pieces to big to fit down "Cousin Jacks" Ore Hoppers for the stamper battery's. All processed sand from battery's carted away by Chinese labour to another site.

Surface rubbish miner's spikes, hand made nails, charcoal, tin and cans and cast iron. Most of which is surface as the clay slate and rock pan is very hard. Simply using the method of "Shine" or raking the rubbish with back of digging pick. Some iron targets in tailing heaps are removed by hand and digging. Ground highly mineralized and like concrete to dig.

211 miners ' 3 engine drivers, 3 managers 16 battery workers and 12 hammer yard labourers.
Chinese contract labour unknown. Deepest shaft 2300 feet 16 levels. Cross -cuts into other levels of the other 2 shafts.
