Personally I've never had a single problem with my Garrett PP. I got mine back in '08 and baby it. I've hunted with others who ram the thing into holes and dig with it that ended up having problems but that's it.

Mine does not go off when I touch the ground. I can root through tot lot mulch and rubber with no problems.

No that is not normal. Mine had to go back to Garrett twice, it now works pretty well without too many false signals. When it does act up I simply shut it off and turn it back on and all is good with the world again.

Like badpenny says just hold it away and shut it off and turn it back on. Sometimes if you hav change in your pocket or anything metal close by it will go off and you think it does it randomly

Anyone have an idea how thick the plastic is on the PP? I see some folks dip the end into plastikote to prolong its life but is that needed?

i wouldnt see where that would be needed...The only Issue I have ever had was when the battery wasnt connecting good inside it....But i fixed that issue.

I do know thou, If you are pushing hard into the ground, sometimes it will go off.

I have come to learn (just likea detector) they do there own little funny things...I wouldnt say i abuse mine, but i dont baby it at all..I keep from dropping it on the ground..But i do detect in the mud with it, and while its raining. I also make sure i clean it out after days like that.

If it acts wierd, just turn it off and back on...if it continues....change the batteries

I agree. No need to dip it, they are pretty tough for sure. If you wear one through you will be ready for the next best thing out there by then.

OK thanks guys..............
