BHG86,

You must be awful young. I cut my teeth on cans like that one.

yea I'm 26 ... lol

I hope you didn't through that pull tab on the ground when you drank that beer. LOL
By the way it's great to see young ladies getting into the hobby and take an interest in history. WTGG:hello2:

Last night on Antiques Roadshow, they featured some old beer cans and some of them were worth from $300.00 to 10 grand.
They didn't have the one worth 10 grand on the show. I didn't know that during WW2 and other wars they used camo green beer cans for the troops. They are worth about $300 bucks. I can't remember the name of the beer can that was so valuable, but it started with an A or F.

oh woow! never thought one would be worth that much... thanks for the info

are you talking about these...?

We used to cut the ends off and then slit it down the side. It made a nice sheet of light steel that we could use for all sorts of things. Mainly we would use it to wrap it on the car exhaust pipe to fix the holes.

BHG,

Keep a lookout for a can of "Billy Beer" :) Anyone remember that one?? LOL

Yeah, too funny... People are trying to sell them like they are worth something these days. The beer wasn't even very good when fresh!

you can actually dig totally brown cans out of the ground and clean them to some extent (and other tins.....toys...etc) -Ive made a lot of money - check out www.therustybunch.com - particularly the message board -
Im sort of curious about the old house........and what else is in there.....Ill be sending you a message........

Yes I made some nice money off Cone tops, Pulled from lake bottom Mud.
Quart type Cone tops especially.

A can like that is only worth something if it is still full... and cold!:occasion14:

Hello Jeff,

If you've got any photos of those in your archives, I'd surely like to see them, please. I'm real partial to Cones.

Interestingly, to me at least, was learning that the Pennsylvanians got the first pull tabs.

Have you had your Iron today?

Unfortunately I didn't have a camera back then. I do think I have photo copies
of them from when My brother sold some on EBay for me.
But may be a task finding them.
My highest selling price was a quart Size Lebanon Valley Pilsner.
Had holes rotted in it & the seam was gone, but it received close to $80.00
from someone from NY. I heard he as very happy with it. must have been rare.

KAIER's are sayd to Be extremely Rare, & Valuable. I believe this as they were few & far between & in the worst shape

These are the ones I kept

I know I sold Iron City cans, don't remember if any were cones.
or the ones you Punctured with a "Church Key"

And MT. Dew cans like this did good

Most were sold to a Breweriana dealer at a local Farmers Market.
He bought them as fast as i could dig them and show up.
even without seams still in them.
as he said they still look good in displays :laughing7:

Hey Jeff,

Thanks. Consider me soil envious. The dirt just eats the cans, zinc lids, et al, in these parts. I've found but one cone in the farthest high desert of the Northwest. It is a lovely brown rust finish from crown to base, inside and out. I've read of the miraculous acid restorations, but this one, I think, is a complete goner. I've dug a handful of steel cans where a tiny window of color or logo was still visible, duly noted and later returned to hole.

Mother Nature does occasionally color etch the glass in delightful fashion.
