I had some time off this week so was out hunting pretty regularly.
(I apologize in advance as I have several posts, but this one takes precedence and is out of order
No sense combining them as each has it's own story and if you readers are like me-you enjoy sitting down at the end of a long day and enjoying the forum and their finds).
Soooooo.....
This was mid week and I had at that point exhausted all my permissions and all my newly researched areas for the year.
Having gotten a late start this year in detecting and been out of the hobby a while, I really hadn't had a lot of prep time.
I had some good finds earlier in the week, and was not really driven to go out, but I didn't want to sit around as the weather has been AWESOME!
I had no idea where to go, but did some thinking and there was an old park I always wanted to try out, but just never got there.
I took a look at the map just so I could get a bearing, and noticed a small public access point along a stream (I would not even call it a park) that was right on my intended route down.
So, I thought what the heck-give it a try--can't hurt. If not, I will head out to my first choice.
Sometime later I get there and pull in, and decide to hike about. It was not much of anything. There was a well-worn path along the stream and that is about it (could have passed for a deer trail) I thought I would give it an hour.
So, I geared up and headed out. And started swinging...and crept along. About, a half hour later I finally got a signal. Just under the surface was a wheat.
I swing again--got another one. Pulled the coil a foot to the left--got another one. I literally just stabbed the soil and dug my fingers into the ground about 4 inches and pulled them out.
I am like...Hmmm...Ok...wheats. So, I started along again...and then I came to another path that just appeared out of nowhere. I got a good strong signal...it was a penny signal and dug about 5" down and pulled out a merc. ...So...I am like...There is silver ...HERE.
We all know the feeling...it was like a curtain drew back and all of a sudden I saw what I can't describe any better than ADVENTURE through each space between the trees. This game is ON! Every space, every barberry bush, every square inch was a possibility AND IT WAS.
It turned out I did a double header. I detected for 4 hard hours the first day, and about the same the next.
The first day I could not stop digging wheats. I have never, ever dug so many wheats in one hunt. My wrist was actually sore.
What I cannot explain is why I found no nickels.
I thought for sure I would even turn up at least one quarter or a half, but not one nickel.
I did walk over one deep nickel-like signal, but it bounced so much--just did not want to waste the time.
So, I told my wife, and she said.."Oh, they are there. You will see."
Hmmm....
I already knew I was going back, as there was another area off to the left of the second path I hadn't had time for.
So, I took my other machine which is hot on nickels (I have found the nickels in the most extreme trash with it).
The next day I found myself weaving under low hanging pines branches, and between the saplings and barberry to see what else was there and what I missed.
4 more silver dimes. One that I did miss the day before (it was misshaped/bent and probably distorted the signal-as well it was about 8" down) and two from the other side of the path.
(It was actually not even surprising when I saw the silver rim or face. It seems even better when you work hard for just that one or two).
Not sure where the other came from. Six more wheats, and a Namco arcade token which I have no explanation of how that got there. No nickels. Not one.
The two day totals gave me the best hunt ever as far as quantity of older coins. I never scored 8 silver like that either. What a hunt!
It might have been detected before. Most places have. That could explain the lack of better coins.
Fishing spot...probably. Old swimming hole...I could see that as it was deep in one area. Picnic area...maybe...Maybe just a popular road stop/parking area.
What I really think is there may have been a payphone there at one time as I found a telephone pole and some concrete as well as an old spot light.
So much for research.
It was one site/hunt I will never ever forget!
Almost forgot this. Found this cup squashed at 7" at the base of an old, rotted tree trunk.

It's hunts like that which feed the beast within. 
Nothing better than pulling a months worth of silvers in 2 back-to-back hunts.
