Pyrite or melted down something else?

Pyrite or something that was melted? It was about 6-7" down, wet beach sand loaded with small rocks. It toned above 70.

Agreed, not pyrite. Pyrite has a cubic structure and I don't see a hint of a cube anywhere on that piece.

I've Googled Pyrite and gold, and even did a reverse image on it. It comes back as both. I don't think gold, in it's original form would take on a rusty hue with green...or would it? I always thought it stayed true to it's color.

This has me looking to see if some other metal was melted down, whether by someone or mother nature.

It'll end up being a paper weight for a sticky note. Yippee. Still kind of a cool find. The thrill of the dig.
 

Looks like melted brass to me, but, I'm no expert.
