I posted this in Todays Finds, but moving it here.....
Today, I paid 25-cents for a shamrock-shaped wooden trivet that has embedded 91-cents in coins: Kennedy Half-dollar, quarter, dime, nickel, penny. All dated 1930 except for 1965 half dollar. The commemorative plate: "Margie; Happy 50th, Dec 18, 1980".

Question.... Why is the 1965 Kennedy half dollar appear to be yellowish or gold toned. ?? Your feedback welcome.

There are many ways to put a gold tone color on a coin. In addition to simple gold plating, there are many chemical bath techniques that can be used to add a gold tone.

The most popular when I was in Jr High chemistry was to use a zinc solution and a bit of heat. Result: gold colored coin. An internet search should give you several methods.

Possibly gold plated. Or dipped in acid. Either way it's post mint damage and has absolutely no extra value.

You made out like a bandit getting that for a quarter!

The color could be plating but could also be from reacting with the chemicals in the wood.
