Can someone please tell me if the P on the 1956p nickel is on all of them or just some? The P is under the date on the one I found.

A close-up photo would help. It's probably a 1996P that has been damaged. In 1956 the D mint mark is on the reverse at the RH edge of the building base.

Thank you so much. I may have to post a photo because it sure looks like 1956 to me. I checked it several times under a light.
