Hey all ! I've had a run of really nice finds from boxes of penny rolls ( machine wrapped ) A few Indians , and early wheats - just wondered if it's possible for Flying Eagles , or 1859- 1864 fatty Indians , to make it into machine rolls - or will they be rejected by the coin counting machines due to composition , weight , thickness ??

Short answer, yes, they can get through.

Long answer, likely not.

Most coin sorters and coin counters can be adjusted internally for a variety of thicknesses, diameters and, depending on specific model, weight.

This is in addition to any presets the machine may have.

Aside from the addition of motors and sensors, not much has really changed in counters since my 1905 vintage manual coin counter.

Time for more coffee.

I once scored a roll of Indian head cents. 53 in one roll. As I recall one was a fatty. Customer wrapped roll.
Keep on Searching

Although it was a number of years ago, I used to do a tracking list on all finds people made while CRH'ing in this forum to see what is really possible to find. I looked back at the list and at least one flying eagle and a couple of the 1859-1864 IHC were found, so it technically has been done.

Here are links to a few of the past tracking list threads if you want to see what was found. They were started over every year.

2009 (only a partial year):

And this last one is a combined year thread
