A few weeks back I had a bank tell me they would no longer except rolled halves, but they gave me some plastic bags and said I could return the coins in the bags and they would send them off to be counted and my account would be credited at that time. Haven't taken them up on the offer yet, 'cause I'm not really comfortable letting them take that much without an immediate credit to my account, but thinking about giving it a try and see how it goes. So, for those of you who have this option, how much do you normally put in one bag ($500? $1000?) and have you experienced any negatives about dumping this way?

Thanks.

I dumped that way for over a year, always $500 loose in bags because of weight issues (frail tellers). I did get my cash back immediately though, and I rarely counted my coins. Never a problem....until a teller shorted the vault once too often. Now I have to re-roll if I want to dump that way, which is rediculous because the tellers have to unwrap the coin anyway, and dump into bag to be shipped out. ffd

It's your money and you better watch out for yourself. The system makes of human being and human being makes mistakes.
Put deposit slip inside the bag and write acct # on the bag. Get a receipt with teller's ID # and the total amount, number of bags, dominonation of each bag, bag tracking #, date of shipping, and ask the teller stamp on it.

I cash in two $500 bags of halves and never had any problems taking $1000 so I can go to the next bank to buy some more. The bags weigh about 27 lbs and that is usually all some of the older lady tellers can handle.

I take my coins in baga sand the tellers dumps them into a counter and gives me the cash then. I don't think I could let them take and credit my account later as I need the money to work with now not later on.....Matt

Matt - what on earth do they do with the left over sand? Not picken on ya Matt, all in good fun....

Coincrawlin,
I do the same every week and have never been shorted. It is the best way for me. Dump in a bag, take it to the counter, and "presto" I have the funds in my account within 4 days. So much easier than the coin counter. Works for me. I always have the info written on my bag so the tellers have less to do. They like it that way.
