I just got my first detector (ACE 250) and I live in Sherman, Texas (Grayson County). I'm wondering who to call to find out if a permit is needed? Could it be that each city requires a permit or if a permit is required, its thru the county? Oh, which department would you contact to inquire about a metal detecting permit?

Thanks in advance
David

Check out this website. And maybe call the parks supervisor and ask. One thing..... don't hunt in an area that has a historic marker or is a known historic site.
If you ask if you can metal detect parks, they might just say no........so ask the parks supervisor, if there are any laws prohibiting metal detector use.

Most lakes in the area are Army Corps run and or operated. You must have a permit to hunt. They are free and available at the individual corp lake offices. I believe they pertain to the beach area only. I have never been asked for one while hunting but since they are easy to get and free, why take the chance?

Thank you for the replies. I will call the parks supervisor to see if I can hunt in the park areas.
