Re: question on the 1974 double die Kennedy's..........any experts?

I have found several true doubled dies, and many, many more that weren't. I dunno if that makes me an "expert" or not, heheheheh! But as a general rule, if the whole face is doubled, it probably is not a true doubled die. Check the opposite face and if you see any doubling on that side, it is from the dies being loose during the striking process.

Or if it has the flat, shelflike appearance that I replied to your previous post with, it is probably from the same thing. Check out your "found in pocket change" post.

It takes a while to be able to spot a true one. Can you scan and post a pic?

I have found 70+ of the double dies so far. There is slight doubling in the beginning T and ending T of TRUST, the reason R-U-S is mentioned is because that is where the strongest doubling can be seen. If you have strong doubling on the two T's also, then you may have a rarer variety.

You're right, Jeffro. You described what's called "machine doubling" I believe, where the doubling looks ghostly and less distinct.
