Tapia had dyslexia and many errors were present on coins produced during his time as assayer... Although the error coins are very interesting, they are not unusual nor "rare"...

Many thanks for the infos!
I have seen a bronze plaque (kind of amulet) some time ago from the caribian with the depiction of a hanged pirate and a inscription "DEATH TO ALL PYRATS" !
First I thought it is maybe a fake because the wrong spell of pirates but the piece was 100% ok.
It seems dyslexia was wide spreed at this time!
An other question: I have an other 8 reales coin with an "open" 8 at the upper part of the 8 and on the left side. Under the 8 is a small cross with bars. Unfortunly the area were the assayer mark has to be, is total flatt. Did you have seen something like tis before?
The piece was found (and bought) at Port Royal.
