Im wondering what others here do when it comes to cleaning the O-ring seal to keep it water proof . Any tricks or techniques of the trade I should know ? Also if the seal gets dirt or crude on it what should I use to clean it with ? How much lubricant grease do I spread over the seal ? Do you clean off the old lubricant and apply a fresh coating every time you change batteries ? This is my first water detector and I want to keep it from springing any leaks . The manual doesn't really tell you much detail on matenance . I haven't made the plunge into the water yet , just using it in tot lots right now to get familiar with the machine . Gonna use it in fresh water only eventually . Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll get my feet wet . Thanks for any replies .

iv had 3 Tiger Sharks and they were all great detectors! when i change the batt's i just wipe the gasket area clean of sand or? then i use Silicone grease (buy at Lowe's plum dept) and just coat the gasket between my fingers (not heavy) this is to keep the gasket soft and flexible. that's it,never had a problem.

You should check the O ring everytime you need to open the case for dirt or sand on the O ring. You can just wipe it down with a clean rag and reapply silicone grease to the O ring when you seal it up again. Don't use Vasoline as it will ruin the rubber. You should only open the case to change batteries.

You've got a good detector there in the Tiger Shark, good luck.

Thanks Dixie Digger and Sandman for the tips . Im sure I will have many more questions as I learn the Tiger Shark . I plan on hipmounting it eventually but right now i've moved the control box back under the arm cup for better balance . Didn't like the feel of it in the forward position . Also I've got a couple accessories on order coming my way soon . A good long handle HD Water Scoop and a custom straight shaft from Anderson Detector Shafts . Gettin ready for some frolicking in the water no doubt ! Can't wait for that never ending supply of pulltabs , hair pins , nails , oh and of course the gold and silver . :icon_pirat: Thanks again guys .....Mike (ratman)

I use a Q tip to clean mine. I picked up a large jar of silicone from a dive shop. I wipe down the houseing realy good first before i open it up.

Oh, and thank you Sandman for the advice about turning down the sens. I turned it down 1/16-1/8 of a turn. What a big diffrence it made in the salt. No more falseing and ran very smooth!

Sandman i must of missed that question on the Tiger Shark falseing and turning down the sensitivity inside the unit? Mine drives me nuts most of the time with hot rocks and also if tap the bottom slightly while making a sweep. Would love to know roughly how much to turn it and clock wise or cc wise? Maybe you could shoot me an e mail?
Thanks George/Ollieboy.

Yeah my Tiger shark would do the same things you described until a few weeks ago I turned down the sensitivity and it is much better.

I wipe my o-ring down with a clean rag like others suggested and I have been using the silicon that Tesoro sent with my detector. I just squeeze some on the o-ring and smooth it over with my finger. I find its a good idea to wash it off with a hose or under a shower to get any sand and salt water off first.

Ollie, what i did is mark the sens pot with a sharpie. Just a dot with it. Then i turned it down "counter clockwise" about half that dot = 1/16 of a turn. It may not seem like much but it did the trick for me. I only use the machine on the saltwater beaches. For the money its turning out to be one great machine.

Thank you both EZrider and Sandman for your response hoping we all have a great year TH'in
Ollieboy

ez rider is correct..silicone from a dive shop, use a q tip to clean the grove that the o ring sets in. Carefully clean the o ring. Snap both latches at the same time when you close the control; box, to get a good seal.

Yeah, closing both latches on the control box is a real plus for having it seal properly Rehless. Great Post.

Many Tiger Shark users always turn up the sens. thinking they will get more depth when in fact they are just making it unstable and less depth as it comes calibrated to the coil from the factory. Marking the Sens pot helps too since I can forget which one is Volume and Threshold.

I wish Tesoro still made the 18" X 3" Clean Sweep Coil for the Tiger. If you ever used one you'll know what I mean.

I got the eight inch coil that it comes with, but purchased the seven to use the machine in nail infested areas. Have three White's,all with larger coils. Great for depth, but not target separation. I work freshwater only. Two gold rings with the seven inch coiul, so far.
