Any Ideas? Found in a park which at one time was a high school.

The general apperance of the item leads me to suspect it was mounted flat against something as opossed to free standing to support automobile distributor wires, etc. Maybe "hammered" is right ~ maybe it is part of an old elevator dial (or something like that) ... But then again, maybe not. :icon_scratch: I'm pretty sure its not a sprocket ~ sprockets are round.

I

It must have gone to someting ,,,What
Who knows?

Thanks anyway!
I dont know what it is, its a tough one but I have found over the years that you will have a better chance of solving this item if you keep the thread going by whatever means possible when others have lost interest. The "Found in a Football Field" thread is a good example. Piggy continually posted new pictures to keep the thread alive for years. You can keep the thread alive or let it die, its up to you. Either way is cool with me. :) We need more clues. I was only making suggestions to post more pics because we seem to be arriving near the end of this thread. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesnt. In this case you have decided that it will not help and the thread will probably fade into oblivion. ;D

Nice try Bob. I guess its possible. If its very thin, than it must have layed flat but we dont know how thick or strong it is. :dontknow:

Actually, it looks to have a couple of different sizes, but only 2 or 3 with repeats. Not gauge.
If you look closely, it appears that some are bent. This makes it appear to be different sizes. It may be a clue and we sure need more clues. The tab at one o'clock is bent so the slots or tabs may have had a functional use.

I'm not saying the item in question has anything to do with old phones, because I'm pretty sure it doesn't. But what I am saying is that the item and old phone dials have "ten holes" in common. But whether the holes in the item were intended for finger tips, I can't say, but most likely were not as it surely was not intended to rotate. :dontknow:

Big Cy ~

Since you were asking for more clues, I'd say "ten holes" might be one to consider.

~ Food for thought ~

Excuse my rough sketch, but I'm thinking something along these lines. But as a Dial ~ Indicator ~ Selector to what, I can't say at the moment. Perhaps a Safe ~ Mail Box ~ Camera ~ etc., etc. :dontknow:

You can never have too many clues. ;D

A second look into Ramitts idea considering where it was found in a park. Texan has a hedge trimmer thread going now. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,425251.0.html It has 9 openings.

Heres one with 10: A branch larger than the opening cannot be cut.
