I remember when I was a kid putting coins on railroad tracks but never finding them after the train passed. I bet there's alot of coins by the tracks, near a road. Might be to dangerous to detect because of a train coming. Has anybody detected near railroad tracks near a road/neighborhood?

I bet the tracks and related hardware would cause a lot of interference resulting in plenty of frustration. Around my home town there are plenty of old track right of ways that have had the tracks removed. These locations might be worthwhile, it is a very good idea and you probably could hunt without permission.

Not to mention the railroads don't like people poking around on the rail lines. With all the crap going on in the world, everyone is suspect near a rail line.

I have hunted railroad tracks just by walking them coming and going. You don't wear headphones on train tracks, just like you don't wear a bag on your head while crossing the street. I've hunted old railway stations that are closed now and have found some silver. Take note that railroad company's have no tresspassing laws that cover any excuse you make and it is in writing.

why dont u wear a bag over your head when u cross the street ----did u ever see the way some people drive (scary) and between the I-pods cell phones and the like theres no room to wear headphones kind of scary allso people walking down the street talking out loud dont know if they are crazy or cell phone connected either way I vote crazy

I did hunt the tracks near a area where I grew up and found over 40 smashed coins in a small area.
